The Challenges
This was a study conducted with the main objective of assessing the existing water supply in Ziwani and Madimba wards in Mtwara District and prepare cost estimates for improving water supplies systems in the said wards. The project was financed by Artumas Africa Foundation and contracted to GOCH Consult Co, Ltd. Specifically, the study aimed at addressing the following:
Geophysical Survey for new wells for Ziwani Ward.
Assessment of physical condition of the Old Pipeline and Tank in Ziwani Ward
Geophysical Survey for new wells at Mitambo and Mngoji villages
Reconnaissance of status of Transmission Main for Namindondi water Supply
Assessment of the rehabilitation needs of Namindondi Water Supply to Mtendachi, Madimba and Mgonji
Assessment of proper way of supplying water to secondary and Msimbati village.
Analysing the demographic data and socio economic aspects
Involvement: Coordinating four teams to conduct four studies namely, 1. Socio-economic survey, 2. existing water supply condition and water supply schemes and study on water resources; 3 reconnaissance, geological and geophysical groundwater survey and 4. assessment of institution arrangement and setup. I was also a team leader for two teams conducted study number one and two.
Achievements: In the course of the assignment to the projects above, I managed to get clear exposure and acquire a good working experience in Planning, Conducting scientific studies which involved data analysis, Report writing and presentations.
